Mission work continues and transfer

Did you know?

The biggest obstacle Dominicans face in getting baptized.  To legalize their marriage.  It is typical for Dominicans to live together in partnership.  It costs 5,000 pesos to get married which is equivalent to 260 us dollars.  It is very difficult thing for Dominicans to do since they are struggling to survive.  Elder Stimpson told me a story of how a branch saved up money to make it possible for one of couples to get married legally.  Elder Stimpson then told me a wonderful news.  There was a family they found that were dropped because of husband having job on Sunday just changed jobs and have been working for institute building.  The institute teacher couple have been teaching them for years but it wasn't possible unless they got married legally.  Well, Elder Stimpson and Elder Mikesell found them just when they got married and saw them baptized by institute teacher.  Our missionaries were OVER the moon.  It really is rare to see the entire family getting baptized.

Elder Stimpson is doing great.  In a conversation last week on Monday, I saw stitches on his thumb and found out that he cut his thumb while preparing a squash they got from member.  He had to pay serious dollars to Taxi so he can go over to capital to get stitches after being approved by Mission President's wife.  His mission fund seriously was seeing a huge dent from long taxi rides.  He is doing fine with nasty looking thumb.

Elder Stimpson and Elder Mikesell were seeing so many wonderful successes in the work and enjoyed their companionship to the point that they were sad that they had to part their ways after receiving the call on Monday that Elder Stimpson is given a transfer assignment.

Dear Brother & Sister Stimpson,

We recently completed changes in assignments in our mission. I wanted to tell you that your son, Elder Matthian John Stimpson, has been asked to serve as a trainer to Elder Bolman from the United States.  No responsibility is of greater importance than that of a trainer. The profound influence a first companion has on a new missionary is felt throughout their entire mission.

Elder Stimpson is a great missionary and has prepared well for this responsibility. I have complete confidence in Elder Stimpson's ability. I am grateful for your missionary's service and your support of his efforts here in the mission field. I will send you a photo of this new companionship later this week. You can be proud of his work.

Sincerely,

José M. Santos

Mission President
